Job Title: Senior Accountant

POSITION FUNCTION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is a critical role within the Finance and Accounting Department. In this role, the Senior Accountant will oversee HICHC’s assigned accounting operations to help support effective management and decision making throughout the organization. 

• Oversees HICHC’s assigned accounting operations. 

• Creates and analyzes liability, asset, and capital accounts by compiling electronic data and required documentation.
• Provides guidance and oversight of the Accountants and other accounting staff by answering questions, coordinating training, and overseeing project work.
• Plays a vital part in the company’s financial management team which includes all account reconciliations and reporting to necessary parties.
• Focuses on federal and state compliance, business finance management and assist with reporting and non-profit tax filing, when needed.

• Day-to-day general accounting tasks as assigned. 

• Performs assigned month and year-end closing activities or processes, including journal entries, and account analysis, to ensure its integrity and timeliness. 
• Prepares and reviews supporting schedules related to monthly and annual financial statement closing process for specifically assigned accounts (i.e. grants, contracts, payroll, fixed assets, etc.).

• Assists in monthly financial statement review. 

• Investigates material variances in key income statement line items from budget and prior periods, as requested.

• Performs special analysis/research as required. 

• Contributes to the external audit processes for annual audit, Medicare Report, UDS, Medicaid Rebasing, or others with supporting documents, preparing schedules, and answering inquiries, and any other preparation as needed. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• BS in Accounting required. 
• 5 years’ experience working in a high-level accounting position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of HRSA guidelines, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and knowledge of non-profit tax filing and tax compliance as it pertains to state and federal level regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a leadership role and help to supervise up to 5 junior-level subordinates.
• Thorough understanding of financial application security ensuring that all financial data is secure and complies with confidentiality policies.
• Required knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, MIP Fund Accounting.
• Must be an outstanding communicator, and have established skills in accuracy, organization, and working in a high-volume environment.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations and guidelines, patient records, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
• Ability to write at a minimal level of competence, including internal reports and memoranda.
• Ability to communicate with diverse groups of people to include staff and providers and patients.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families to make their visit a pleasant experience.
• Sensitivity to the multicultural nature of the service area population and may be required to communicate in another language.
